Benefits of Plastic Thermosetting Mould
Thermoset injection moulding has several specific applications which depend on the original polymer or compound. In general, thermoset plastics provide thermal and electrical insulation – which is useful for electronic applications. Find out all the benefits below:
Heat resistant
Thermoset plastics can withstand elevated temperatures because they will not remelt – some as high as 370 degrees celsius, and some as low as way below 0 degrees celsius.
Excellent load-bearing capacity
Lightweight thermoset polymers often have a surprising load-bearing capacity, both in compression and shear, especially when flexible.

Shock absorbant
Thermoset plastics tend to have significant impact resistance and can be shock-absorbing. The final properties of the compound can range in hardness and flexibility.
Resistant to harsh chemicals
They are also often resistant to chemicals and solvents, proving reliable for use in applications that include liquids, like the medical industry, because they don’t swell or deteriorate.
Good properties for medical applications
Some thermoset compounds, specifically silicone, are approved for medical applications because they have low toxicity and do not react with the skin or internal organs or fluids. Thermoset injection moulded silicone can even create implantable items for surgical use.
Material Preparation: Thermosetting polymers are fed into the injection molding machine, usually in granular or preform form.
Heating & Injection: The material is heated and injected into a preheated mold under high pressure. Unlike thermoplastics, thermosets do not melt; they are softened enough to flow into the mold.
Curing Process
Heat and pressure trigger a chemical reaction (cross-linking) that solidifies the material into its final shape. This irreversible step means the material cannot be reshaped or remolded.
Cooling & Ejection
After the curing process, the part is cooled and ejected from the mold.
Post-Processing
Some parts may require additional finishing, such as trimming excess material, surface treatment, or coating.
Thermoplastic Applications in Various Industries
Packaging
Thermoplastics are predominant in the packaging industry due to their flexibility, durability, and recyclability. PET and HDPE are commonly used for containers, bottles, and wrapping films.
Consumer Products
From toys to household items like containers and furniture, thermoplastics are favored for their versatility, ease of manufacturing, and aesthetic qualities. Their ability to be molded into complex shapes and vibrant colors enhances product appeal.
Automotive
Thermoplastics are also widely used in the automotive sector, particularly for components that do not face high heat stress, such as bumpers, dashboards, and interior trims. They offer a good balance of weight, cost, and performance.
Medical Devices
The medical industry relies on thermoplastics to make a variety of devices, such as syringes, surgical instruments, and wearable devices. Their sterilization ability and biocompatibility make them suitable for medical applications.
